BAR HARBOR — The YWCA MDI will host a free interactive workshop about discussing racial and cultural differences with children on Sunday, June 24, from 8-9:30 p.m.
The workshop will be based on a webinar developed by a group called “Raising Race Conscious Children.”
“We often avoid talking about race with our young children, but whether we like it or not, children notice similarities and differences between people,” a statement from the group reads. “When we are silent, they are left to draw their own conclusions about what ‘different’ means. Without coaching or support, their conclusions often reflect and reinforce biases. Fortunately, when we are intentional, we can impact the ways that our children see, categorize, and make meaning about race.”
This webinar is free and open to the public. Participants can register by calling the YWCA MDI at 288-5008.
