ELLSWORTH – Healthy Acadia is offering AmeriCorps service opportunities for individuals to assist community partner organizations across Maine through the summer.
Eligible individuals must commit to serve 25-40 hours per week July 1 through August 31. Members may provide recovery coaching and recovery support services under the Maine AmeriCorps RecoveryCorps model, assist with programs working to respond to public health issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic, or a combination of both will support local organizations as they respond to the needs of the community during the state of emergency.
COVID-19 response activities may include assisting local food banks, connecting with isolated community members remotely, providing COVID-19 education and community outreach, and supporting prevention and mitigation efforts.
RecoveryCorps Recovery Coaching/Supports volunteers will develop professional skills to build their resume, and impact change by supporting the work of local organizations that are committed to enhancing successful and sustainable recovery for our communities. Host sites include county jails, hospitals, health centers, recovery centers, community-based nonprofits, police departmentsand social service agencies. RecoveryCorps members are needed to serve communities in Aroostook, Hancock, Knox, Kennebec, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Waldo and Washington counties.
Volunteers serving with either program will be provided with temporary use of a Healthy Acadia Google Chromebook and cell phone/hotspot during their service term. Individuals who complete their summer service term will be eligible for a $2,000 stipend as well as $1,251 in education credit that can be used towards tuition or preexisting student loan debt. They will also gain experience in emergency community response, have access to the nationwide network of AmeriCorps members and alumni and the opportunity to sign on for a full year of service upon completion.
