MOUNT DESERT — The work currently under way on Peabody Drive (Route 3) near Thuya Garden is a “rock slope remediation” project.

The purpose, according to the Maine Department of Transportation (DOT) is to remove unstable blocks of rock and rock fragments from the top and face of the slope. The DOT last month awarded the contract to CAN USA Inc. of Hackensack, N.J., which submitted a bid of $23,434. The next lowest bid was $54,000.
