Wine & Whiskers to benefit SPCA

MOUNT DESERT — The third annual Wine & Whiskers Benefit and Auction for the SPCA of Hancock County at the Asticou Inn in Northeast Harbor begins at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26.

The ticket price of $125 per person includes hors d’oeuvres, an open bar, dessert and live music by The Crown Vics. Half of the ticket price, $62.50, is tax deductible.

The event also will include silent and live auctions with Hugh Hildesly of Sotheby’s serving as the evening’s auctioneer. Auction items include a whimsical harbor seal sculpture by local artist Dan Falt, trips to Bali and Taos, N.M., jewelry designed by Lisa Hall, dinner for 10 at Havana and tickets to attend a taping of the popular Bravo TV show “Watch What Happens Live.”

This is the SPCA’s largest fundraiser of the year. All of the proceeds directly support the operation of the nonprofit organization’s animal shelter. The shelter is located in Trenton and serves all of Hancock County.

“Like Acadia National Park, the SPCA of Hancock County recently reached our 100th anniversary,” said event Co-Chair Michele Croan.

“Wine & Whiskers is our most important fundraiser of the year. We’re hoping to celebrate our centennial by raising $100,000 to help us feed, house and provide medical assistance for the dogs and cats in our care.”
