BAR HARBOR — To celebrate its 125th annual meeting and 135th year of existence, the Bar Harbor Village Improvement Association will hold its annual meeting on the second floor of Testa’s Restaurant on Thursday, Aug. 18, at 9:30 a.m.
Refreshments will be served and displays will be available for viewing, which depict the history and recent work of the Bar Harbor VIA.
The association was formed in 1881 and incorporated in 1891. At its peak in 1919, the VIA had over 400 members, and because of the vision and hard work of the individuals serving on this and other boards, Bar Harbor has many amenities usually reserved for much larger cities. These tireless individuals were responsible for the building of local roads, trails, parks, the shore path, water supply, the hospital, library, Indian museum, golf course, national park and much more.
