ELLSWORTH — Downeast Scenic Railroad will present a Touch A Train Day at the Washington Junction railroad yard located just north of Ellsworth on Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., rain or shine. Admission is free.
A passenger train and a freight train will be on display, and tours will be offered of the engine, the coaches and the caboose. Kids of all ages are invited to sit in the engineer’s seat behind the throttle of the locomotive. Engineers, conductors and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions. Rides in the caboose through the rail yard will be offered.
The New England Steam Corporation will display the bell from Maine Central steam locomotive No. 470. The group is restoring the steam engine currently located at the Washington Junction yard.
The Hancock Fire Department will have its fire truck on display.
