BAR HARBOR — The Telluride Mountainfilm on Tour program will make a stop at The Criterion Theatre on Saturday, Oct. 1, for a two-part documentary screening of films from across the world.
Mountainfilm travels year-round and worldwide bringing the best documentary shorts from the Colorado-based Telluride Film Festival to theaters in hundreds of communities. Representatives from Mountainfilm have been collaborating with The Criterion Theatre to curate two playlists of films for the Bar Harbor and Maine communities specifically.
These films delve into a wide array of environmental issues, including farmers dealing with drought, mining in Sweden and the salmon population in Alaska. Other films profile adventurers from all over the world, including a woman who summits the world’s highest peaks, two men building an accurate depiction of our solar system, Bolivian female wrestlers and a group reflecting on the art of bouldering.
The two screenings on Oct. 1 will have completely different playlists. The matinee from 2-4 p.m. will have a more environmental focus and costs $7 to attend. The evening show from 7-9:30 p.m. includes a varied set with profiles and outdoor adventure-themed shorts and costs $8. For entrance to both screenings, there’s an all-day pass available for $12. Tickets can be purchased at www.criteriontheatre.org or at the box office the day of the event. Full schedules are also available on the Criterion website.
