TEDxDirigo Ebb and Flow explores the Acadia National Park region

BAR HARBOR — Explore how human communities have shaped the form and history of Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park with scientists, artists, writers, adventurers, and more at the TEDxDirigo Ebb and Flow conference on Saturday, May 21.

Celebrating the Acadia Centennial and the national park system’s 100th anniversary, TEDxDirigo Ebb and Flow takes place in the Criterion Theatre from 12-5 p.m. Advance tickets may be purchased at tedxdirigo.com.

TEDxDirigo Ebb and Flow will feature exceptional live performances and speakers.

Among the roster is Bar Harbor nurse-midwife Linda Robinson, whose international work has taken her to Malawi, Africa, as a Peace Corps volunteer, to American Samoa, where she started the first midwifery practice, and to the Democratic Republic of Congo with Doctors without Borders.

Other speakers include Robert Steneck, a professor in the University of Maine’s School of Marine Sciences and an ecologist whose research focuses on coastal marine ecosystems, from the frigid waters of the Gulf of Maine and Alaska’s Bering Sea to the tropical coral reefs of the Caribbean and Indo-Pacific Ocean; Rockefeller family scion Rebecca Lambert, who guides retreats for environmental leaders and others to help them connect with their calling, learn from nature and mark transitions in their lives; and New York Times bestselling children’s books author Carrie Jones.

Ticketholders will enjoy an oceanfront party, exclusive adventures over the weekend including access to the island’s cutting-edge research centers and museums, a popover cooking class and Acadia National Park itself.

This event is produced in partnership and with support from the Treehouse Institute, Abbe Museum, Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce, College of the Atlantic, Criterion Theatre, Friends of Acadia, The Jackson Laboratory, MDI Biological Laboratory and others.
