BAR HARBOR — Conners Emerson School is hosting a talent show on Friday, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m. with proceeds benefitting the school’s show choir and string instrument programs.
A food sale will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will include pizza, hot dogs and baked goods, as well as a 50-50 raffle.
The talent show is an opportunity for students in grades 1-8 to show off their unique abilities. Admission costs $1 for students, $3 for adults and $10 for a family.
This year’s show is a fundraiser and is sponsored by two of the schools music groups: the Show Stoppers and the Swallowtail Fiddlers.
The Show Stoppers is a show choir, accompanied by an all-student instrumental ensemble, from the Conners Emerson and Mount Desert Elementary schools. This multi-age group had its beginnings in May 2009 with eager students who had the desire to sing show tunes and learn choreography with a touch of theatrical stage presence. “To Boldly Go” is the Star Trek-themed original show, designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the beloved television series.
The Swallowtail Fiddlers, named after the Irish tune “Swallowtail Jig,” is comprised of string musicians from the Conners Emerson School in Bar Harbor in grades 4-8. Formed in 2002, the Swallowtail Fiddlers delight audiences with toe tapping jigs, hornpipes, reels and slow airs from Ireland, Scotland and America.
The Show Stoppers are raising money for costumes, music, set, hair/makeup products, festival expenses and more. The Swallowtail Fiddlers are raising money to bring the famed fiddlers Alasdair Fraser (violin) and Natalie Haas (cello) to Conners Emerson on Nov. 30.
Both groups are under the direction of Rebecca Edmondson, music educator.
