BAR HARBOR — A family fundraiser for the MDI Skatepark will be held at Reel Pizza Cinerama on Saturday, April 8, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
A skatejam for youths will be held in the parking area from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. There is no fee to participate, but skaters should wear their helmets. Prizes will be awarded.
A silent auction will be held from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The auction will be called at intermission. Check out will be after the film ends.
“Eddie the Eagle,” a film based on the true story of a young man who dreams of competing in the Olympics, will be screened at 1:30 p.m. The film, rated PG-13, lasts 1 hour, 46 minutes.
“The Search for Animal Chin,” a classic documentary about the art and sport of skateboarding produced by famous skateboarders in their youth, will be shown at 1:30 p.m. The film, rated PG, lasts 1 hour, 5 minutes.
The suggested donation to watch the films is $5 each. Anyone interested in donating to the silent auction should call 460-7446.
The next phase of construction at the skate park site should begin in May. The organization would like to raise as much money as possible by that time to fund as much of the construction as they can while the team from Pillar Designs Studios is in town.
