BAR HARBOR — Following a successful opening weekend at Mount Desert Island High School, the Acadia Community Theater production of “Seussical, the Musical” will be performed at The Criterion Theatre on Friday, April 13, at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, April 14, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The show intertwines the stories of several of Dr. Seuss’ books through songs and verse. It is appropriate for all ages and features a wide range of music from salsa to the blues, lullabies and rock.

The cast includes more than 50 adults and children from across MDI, Trenton and Ellsworth. Thomas Van Gorder is the Cat in the Hat. His protégé Jojo is played by Finn Hansbury. Jeffrey Servetas plays Horton. Christina Longstreeth choreographed the show and plays Gertrude McFuzz. Other leads include Danielle Jones-Shepard as Mayzie La Bird, Josh Howie as General Gengus Khan Schimtz, Julie Creed as the Sour Kangaroo, and Ray Vonder Haar and Rose Iuro-Damon as Mr. and Mrs. Mayor from Whoville. Horton is taunted by a large group of Jungle Creatures, including six Wickersham Brothers and six Bird Girls.

The show is directed by Mark Puglisi, MDI High School teacher and ACT board member. Catie Forthofer is the music director, and the set was designed by Doug Van Gorder. Heather Dillon produced the show, and Matt and Angel Hochman are technical director and stage manager. Jaylene Roths led the costuming team of Lori Jordan, Geneva Langley, Joanna Robinson-Clarke and Jacq Bolt. The costumes were designed to reflect the imaginative illustrations of Dr. Seuss.
