MOUNT DESERT —The United Church of Christ (UCC) of Northeast Harbor and Seal Harbor will host internationally acclaimed classical guitarist Kevin Morse at the congregation’s annual Thuya Garden Worship Service facilitated by the Rev. Dr. Joseph F. Cistone on Sunday, Aug. 14, at 10 a.m.
Every year, the UCC of Northeast Harbor and Seal Harbor gathers at the Thuya Garden, located at the end of Thuya Drive of the Peabody Drive section of Route 3 in Northeast Harbor, for a public, outdoor service of worship and fellowship in the midst of the one of the most beautiful locales on Mount Desert Island. This year’s service will focus on environmental justice in conjunction with Acadia National Park’s Centennial.
Thuya Garden was designed by Charles Savage from 1956-1961 on the former Curtis family orchard with the philanthropic support of John D. Rockefeller. The garden and its surrounding landscape are a beautiful and unique blend of the semi-formal English landscape and the indigenous MDI woodlands. Visit www.gardenpreserve.org.
Morse, the 1992 winner of the prestigious international guitar competition of “Guitar Player Magazine,” is recognized as perhaps the world’s preeminent exponent of the Spanish classical guitar. He has played all over the world and has been regularly featured on MPBN. Visit www.kevinmorseguitar.com.
Parking is available at the Thuya Garden parking area at the head of Thuya Drive and at the Asticou Terraces Trail parking on Route 3 (Peabody Drive) in Northeast Harbor. Car-pooling is encouraged. In case of rain, the service will be held at the Union Church, 21 Summit Road, Northeast Harbor. The congregation’s weekly 8 a.m. ecumenical service shall be held at The Abby Chapel, 8 Main St., Seal Harbor.
