TREMONT — The Bass Harbor Memorial Library will celebrate Gott’s Island native and best selling author Ruth Moore with a host of mid-July events. This years’ community read will be “The Tired Apple Tree,” Moore’s 1990 volume of poems and ballads. Copies will be available to purchase at the library.

On Tuesday, July 17, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. there will be a Paint and Sip at the library with artist Jean Forbes. Moore’s poem “July” will be the inspiration for a watercolor painting with technique and tips provided by Forbes. The class is free and materials, hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be provided. Space is limited to 12 adults. No walk-ins.

Author Martha Donovan will lead a writing workshop inspired by the poetry of Moore’s “The Tired Apple Tree” on Wednesday, July 18, at 6:30 p.m. Participants will learn about Moore’s style and voice and learn and practice the craft of poetry with the local author, professor and artist.

The library will host a community gathering and reading of “The Tired Apple Tree” on Thursday, July 19, at 6 p.m.  Local actors will perform selected pieces and share favorites. Birthday cake and refreshments will be served.
