Recitals to benefit pantry



SOUTHWEST HARBOR — A pair of recitals to be held at St. John Church, 315 Main St., will benefit the Westside Food Pantry.

Harpsichordist Gavin Black will perform on an original 17th-century harpsichord on Friday, Aug. 19, at 6:30 p.m. His program includes works of early and mid-17th century composers, including Storace, Buxtehude and Frescobaldi.

Pianist Christina Spurling and sopranos Michele Kruske and Ketti Muschler will present an evening of art songs inspired by the sea, featuring works by Faure, Britten, Kurt Weill and Andre Previn, on Friday, Aug. 26, at 6:30 p.m.

A reception will follow each recital. A $10 donation is suggested. All proceeds will go to the pantry. Contact Susan Buell at 244-8061.
