Pride weekend set

BAR HARBOR — Bar Harbor will celebrate diversity with its first pride weekend starting Friday, June 10. The weekend will kick off with a night of music at the Lompoc and include yoga, live theater, karaoke and root beer floats.

“We’re excited to publicly celebrate the beautiful and diverse LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex, asexual) community here on MDI,” said Andrew Daul, lead organizer. “We’ve had tremendous support from local businesses and have put together a weekend of events that has something for everybody.”

Friday night will kick off at the Lompoc with music by Great Gale and Divorce Lawyer at 10 p.m. Saturday’s lineup includes yoga in Grant Park at 11 a.m., a root beer social and karaoke in the Reel Pizza parking lot at noon, a screening of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” at Reel Pizza at 2 p.m., two one-act plays by Maine playwright Carolyn Gage at the Criterion Theatre at 8 p.m. and a drag show at Carmen Verandah at 10 p.m. The weekend will close out with a release party for the June issue of “Native Peoples” magazine with Bar Harbor’s own George Neptune as the cover model and feature story.
