Poinsettia Ball set

Ellsworth — The annual Poinsettia Ball to benefit Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital is set for Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Ramada Inn.

This year’s Poinsettia Ball draws inspiration from the golden age of train travel, when passengers moved from town to town across Maine on the rails. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit obstetrics and maternity care at Maine Coast Hospital, as they did at the first Poinsettia Ball held in 1992.

“The very first Poinsettia Ball raised more than $9,000 for what was then known as the Birthing Unit,” says Bette Pierson, a member of the event’s planning committee since its inception. “Prior to that time, there wasn’t a separate birthing area in the hospital.”

More than $860,000 has been raised at the Poinsettia Ball over the years, with every dollar staying in the community to support patient care at Maine Coast Hospital.

Dinner prepared by Chipper’s Restaurant and Catering will be followed by dancing to the Larry Williams Band.
