Plant collector to speak

BAR HARBOR — Dan Hinkley, plant explorer and author, will give a talk about plant collecting at Garland Farm on Sunday, Aug. 14 at 4 p.m.

Hinkley has spent decades traveling the world and finding new plants to share with gardeners. The Beatrix Farrand Society is sponsoring this talk.

Plant collecting is an adventurous career that involves searching for plants that are underappreciated and typically unknown. After they are collected, they are evaluated over years to ensure that they are appropriate plants for gardeners. Dan Hinkley collaborates with local guides, the United States Department of Agriculture and other plant enthusiasts in his work.

This program is $10 for members of the Beatrix Farrand Society and $20 for nonmembers. To request a disability accommodation and to register in advance, call 581-2937 or contact [email protected].
