Peace Corps travel talk set

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Bernard residents Jill Higgins and Joe Blotnick will share slides and stories from their two years in the Dominican Republic as Peace Corps volunteers Tuesday, May 14, at 5:30 p.m. at the Southwest Harbor Public Library.

Higgins taught in the village, focusing on environmental studies and special education. Blotnick worked with a cooperative of cacao growers.

Their son Robin Blotnick, who was studying film at the time, joined his parents and made a 30-minute film about the cacao cooperative.

That film, “Chocolate Country,” won an award at the 2006 Seattle International Film Festival. The film will be screened as part of the presentation.
