BAR HARBOR — Willowind Therapeutic Riding Center will host an Open Barn Day Saturday, May 11, from 1-3 p.m. The barn is at 1140 Route 3, near the intersection of Route 3 and Knox Road.

The open house will include chances to meet the horses at the center, learn about horsemanship, watch riding demonstrations and make kid-friendly, horse-related crafts to bring home.

Brrrr! Harbor will provide hawaiian-style shaved ice (donations accepted). The event also includes a raffle and silent auction. Proceeds from all raffle/silent auction sales and shaved ice donations will go toward the Willowind Scholarship Program, which supports riders who benefit from therapeutic riding but do not have the economic resources to participate.

Willowind has a small parking lot and most visitors will be parking on Route 3. “Please use caution walking along Route 3,” organizers said. “You may pull into the parking lot to drop off family members and then park along the street.”

Sponsors and donors to Open Barn Day include Brrrr Harbor, Reel Pizza, Acadia Coffee Company, Mount Desert Island Ice Cream, Hadley Point Campground, MDI YMCA, Pirates Cove, Liz Oppewall, Acadia Trail Sign Company, Acadia Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Tim Rand, Cadillac Mountain Sports, David Folger, Mount Dessert Bakery, Karen Greenberg, the Criterion Theatre, Schoodic Institute and The Kimball Shop.
