New boutique opens on Cottage Street

BAR HARBOR Susana Del Cid, past president and member of the local rotary club, has opened Versatile-Ua new year-round boutique located at 13 Cottage Street.

On April 15, from 11 a.mto 6 p.m., Versatile-U will hold a grand opening where everything will be 15 percent off all day. “There will be a nice goody bag for customers with purchase,” Del Cid said.

Del Cid is targeting her apparel for woman ages 35 and younger to avoid duplication with a neighboring store. “I’ve been working in retail, specifically with clothing, for quite a long time. There was a point in my life where I wanted to have my own business and if I was going to open a business, it would have apparel for women, and that was a dream of mine for such a long time,” said Del Cid.

Del Cid, who is originally from Panama, has lived on the island since 2007 after working summers here. “I’ve worked at the Wonderview Inn, for Oli’s Trolley, and I was the manager at the Kimball Shop and Boutique in Northeast Harbor,” Del Sid said. Working for those local business inspired her to launch her own business online.

“Definitely in December of last year, I decided it was time to go brick and mortar, because with just a few sales on the internet, I still got a lot of exposure,” she said.

The business owner works with independent wholesalers around the country that supply her shop with clothing, accessories, gifts and home goods for young women. Del Cid said she will have a variety of items. “I have some beautiful pillowcases that I haven’t seen anything like, skincare and cool stuff that I know the young people like to have.”

For now, the store will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. In May, Del Cid wants to gradually increase the shop hours and be open on Tuesdays also. “I’m probably going to be closing for a few weeks after the season, but I will mostly be open year-round,” she said.
