Mystery writer wanted

BAR HARBOR — The Jesup Memorial Library and the Seal Cove Auto Museum are looking for the writer of the next great murder mystery featuring the museum’s Brass Era car collection for the museum’s second annual Murder Mystery Dinner, co-sponsored by the Jesup. Bonus points will be given to scripts that also involve the library.

The script should include a cast of 10 characters, including the murderer and victim, tell the backstory, shape the characters and decide who really murdered the victim. The story should give guests at this special event all the information needed to question witnesses to try and unravel the mystery.

The grand prize for the winning author includes a mystery book bundle; two tickets to the Jesup’s Murder by the Book wine reception on Friday, Oct. 27, where the winner will meet great mystery writers, including Tess Gerritsen, the keynote speaker; and two tickets to the Murder Mystery Dinner at the museum on Sunday, July 23.

Final scripts are due on Monday, May 1, and the winner will be announced on Thursday, June 2. Scripts should be sent to [email protected]. The contest is open to writers of all abilities and experience levels. The winning script will be chosen by staff members from the library and the museum.

There will be a preview performance of the winning play at the Jesup on Thursday, July 20.
