BAR HARBOR — The 52nd Bar Harbor Music Festival will bring 15 different musical events to Bar Harbor from July 1-29. Those events include recitals, chamber music, pops, a New Composer performance and forum, opera, jazz and string orchestra concerts.
Soprano April Martin will be featured in the festival’s opening day Tea Concert at the Maine Seacoast Mission on Sunday, July 1, at 4 p.m. Martin, lauded by The Plain Dealer as “a standout, sweet of phrasing and full of temperament,” will collaborate with Pianist Cara Chowning on a performance of music by Schubert, Debussy, Faure, Richard Strauss, Granados and Bernstein. Tea will be served during intermission.
Brass Venture will appear for the 15th consecutive season on opening night at the Bar Harbor Congregational Church on Tuesday, July 3, at 8 p.m. The program, sponsored by Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, will feature Eric Ewazen’s “Acadia” (2016). Ewazen is composer-in-residence at the Juilliard School.
Alexandra Beliakovich, a Belarussian-American pianist, will present her festival debut recital at the Bar Harbor Congregational Church on Friday, July 6, at 8 p.m. A prize winner in the World Piano Competition, she will perform music by Haydn, Beethoven, Debussy, Geoffrey Burleson and Chopin.
“The Best of Broadway” pops concert will take place in the Bluenose Inn Great Room on Tuesday, July 10, at 8 p.m. Sopranos Janinah Burnett and April Martin, with Cara Chowning at the piano, will perform hit songs from the Great White Way, including music by Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter, Andrew Lloyd Weber, and George and Ira Gershwin, among others.
Alexandra Beliakovich will give a second recital, but this time at St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church, on Tuesday, July 12, at 8 p.m. with music by J.S. Bach, Prokofiev and Schumann.
