Mount Desert Open seeks artists

MOUNT DESERT — Shaw Gallery in Northeast Harbor is calling for artists to submit work for the gallery’s 17th annual Mount Desert Open.

Each year typically brings 50 artists, new and veteran, to this painting, craft and sculpture exposition for local residents. Exhibitors included professional artists, students and amateurs. The show runs from exploratory to realistic and includes media from watercolor to weaving. Having a show of so many different artists in one place allows people to see the numerous and wide-ranging talents on Mount Desert Island.

This exhibit has only two criteria. First, artists must have work that is recent and of which they are proud. Second, they must have a connection to Mount Desert Island, such as where they live or work, or their address. All interested people are encouraged to contact the gallery. There is no jury. Artists are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The space fills fast.

An opening reception will be held on Thursday, May 25, and the show will run through Monday, June 12. Contact Shaw Gallery at 276-5000 or at [email protected].
