Morse to play danceable music at First Friday Coffeehouse

MOUNT DESERT — Kevin Morse will be the featured performer at the First Friday Coffeehouse at the Northeast Harbor Library on Friday, Feb. 2.

An open mic session with Blue Gene as master of ceremonies will start at 7 p.m. All performing artists are welcome to sign up on the clipboard to participate. Each person usually has about 10 minutes to perform.

At 8 p.m., Morse will present a program to include Spanish flamenco, Brazilian sambas and other Latin American and Spanish dance pieces.

Morse lives in Seal Harbor and is married to Daniela Accettura, the archivist at the Northeast Harbor Library. He has spent his life dedicated to the mastery of the classical guitar. At the age of 13, while living in Rochester, N.Y., he met his mentor, Stanley Watson. He was able to work with him for 10 years, committed to his demanding physical approach to the guitar.

All his life, he has made his living as a classical guitarist. Morse has two CDs out: “Hearts of Guitar” and “Guitar Souls.” Currently, he’s producing a new one.

Morse plays guitars made in Madrid, Spain. He has a collection of them and is something of an authority on Spanish guitars, having worked with guitar makers in Spain for the last 45 years. At the First Friday Coffeehouse, he will play upbeat danceable music.

The First Friday Coffeehouse is free of charge. Refreshments in support of the Mount Desert Elementary School greenhouse will be on sale throughout the evening.
