ELLSWORTH — The animated hit “Moana” will be shown at The Grand on Friday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, May 6, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. as part of The Grand’s family film series.
Nominated for this year’s Oscar for Best Animated Feature, the movie begins 3,000 years ago, when the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped, and no one knows exactly why. When an adventurous teenager sails out on a daring mission to save her people, Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho) meets the mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master “wayfinder.” Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity.
General admission tickets to the screening cost $5.
