BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Summer Chorale will begin rehearsals on Wednesday, July 1, at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary at St. Saviour’s Church, 41 Mount Desert St.
This summer, the chorale is preparing a program of works by Mozart: the “Solemn Vespers for a Confessor” and the “Requiem.” This year’s concerts will take place on Aug. 7 and 8.
David Schildkret, music director of the chorale, emphasizes that all kinds of singers are welcome. “There is no audition to join the chorale. We prepare a full program with orchestra in about six weeks, so people have to be ready to work!” Schildkret goes on to explain that the membership of the chorale are both year-round and summer residents, most of whom sing in other choirs during the year. They range from high school students to professionals and retired people.
The Mount Desert Summer Chorale has been giving concerts on the island since 1968. The performances always have featured professional soloists and usually have included a professional orchestra.
