Show Choir Extravaganza tonight!

This weekend, for the first time in several years the finals of the Vocal Jazz Festival will not be held locally, at Ellsworth High, but a good two hours away in Millinocket. This means a lot of folks won’t get to see the competition.

However they will have an opportunity, this week, to see the extraordinary performances our MDI high school and middle school show choirs will be taking to the finals.

On Thursday, March 26, at 6 p.m. MDIHS is hosting “Extravaganza” featuring the two high school choirs, and the three area middle school choirs from Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Mount Desert and Trenton. Because of the expected large turnout, the show will be held in the gym. The $3 admission will be shared with each performing group to assist with costume and set costs for next year.

An equally accomplished student pit band will accompany both choirs.

The three middle-school choirs will also have further perfected their performances for Thursday’s Extravaganza. The combined Conners-Emerson and Mount Desert elementary schools with their Celtic take on the “The Wizard of Oz,” Pemetic School’s revival of  “The Lion King” and Trenton School’s breakout performance of “Matilda” should make Extravaganza a thrilling show and terrific dress rehearsal for the competition.
