Filmmaker seeks MDI footage

MOUNT DESERT — Filmmaker Jeremy Lunt has announced a new documentary project for release in early 2016.

Mount Desert Island: A Home Movie” will portray life on MDI over the past century by bringing together rarely seen home movie footage from year-round residents, summer residents and tourists.

Lunt, a native of Northeast Harbor, directed and produced the recently released “Summer Colony,” which examined the history and social dynamics of that village.

“While I was working on ‘Summer Colony,’ I uncovered several impressive collections of vintage home movies,” he explained. “I thought to myself that, here alone, there was almost enough material for a second movie.”

The filmmaker will collaborate on the project with Willie Granston of the Great Harbor Maritime Museum in Northeast Harbor.

The production is still looking for additional home movie footage of Mount Desert Island, and any residents or visitors who have video or films are encouraged to contact  Lunt.
