MOUNT DESERT — A feature-length documentary exploring the history and people of Northeast Harbor is entering its final stages of production, thanks to a successful $6,000 online fundraising campaign.

Filmmaker and Mount Desert native Jeremy Lunt has been working on “The Summer Colony” since he was a student at the University of Southern Maine in 2004. The film is an exploration, he said, of the contrasts embodied in the town, where summer brings crowds and riches and winter brings a quiet, slow period during which almost the entire town closes up.

Funds from a Kickstarter campaign will now allow Lunt to secure the final rights, add some voice-overs, and manufacture about 500 DVDs of the film, he said.

Lunt has set a tentative release date of Nov. 26. The movie will be available on DVD through local retailers.
