SOUTHWEST HARBOR — New York pianist Mira Armij Gill will perform the works of Chopin, Liszt and others in a concert at the historical Claremont Hotel on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 8:15 p.m.
A native of Salt Lake City, Mira Armij Gill is of East-Indian descent. She is a graduate of The Juilliard School where she had the privilege of completing her bachelor’s degree as one of three students of the late John Browning, and received her master’s degree with Yoheved Kaplinsky. While at Juilliard, Gill won the Artist’s International Young Artist Piano Award which resulted in her New York debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. She has performed in famed venues worldwide, including Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall; the Weiner Saal Concert Hall in Salzburg, Austria; and Mozarteum’s concert series in Radstadt, Austria.
Gill was a featured soloist with the Utah Symphony under the baton of Maestro Joseph Silverstein, who wrote of her playing “wonderful command of the instrument.” Her performance of Liszt’s First Piano Concerto was described by the Salt Lake Tribune as “a bravura performance attacked with confidence and flair.” Gill has soloed with orchestras across the US and Canada including the Fort Collins Symphony, the Oberlin Conservatory Chamber Orchestra and the Brigham Young University Chamber Orchestra. Some of her performances have been broadcast live over KSL and KBYU Radio, and she was featured on KSL Television.
She has garnered top prizes in both national and international competitions, including the Joanna Hodges International Brahms Competition in California. Gill was also Mu Phi Epsilon’s 2012 Distinguished Artist in New York.
