Acadian trio returns to Trad

BAR HARBOR — The Acadian powerhouse trio Vishtèn is set to perform at the College of the Atlantic’s Gates Auditorium on Thursday, July 2, during the Acadia Trad School Celtic Music Festival.

For the past decade, Vishtèn has acted as Francophone musical ambassadors throughout the world. The Canadian trio has dazzled audiences with their fiery blend of traditional French songs and original instrumentals that fuse Celtic and Acadian genres with a modern sensibility of rock influence.

This summer on July 10, Vishtèn releases their new album, “Terre Rouge.” The party will then come to the U.S. for a tour of the Northeast, Midwest and West Coast.

Inspired by their homeland, Prince Edward Island, “Terre Rouge” offered the chance for Vishtèn to join forces with local French-speaking researchers, dancers and musicians they had longed to collaborate with for years. Known for their signature blend of fiddle, guitar, accordion, harmonium, whistles, piano, bodhrán, jaw harp, moog, electric guitar and percussive dance, Vishtèn creates a unique tour de force of traditional and contemporary sounds. The new album is no exception, brimming with these rich French, Micmac and Celtic roots.
