Library to feature art of Jean Forbes



TREMONT — The artwork of Manset artist Jean Forbes will be featured at the Bass Harbor Memorial Library from April 18 through June 1.

The show will feature recent paintings in watercolors, oils and gouache. Forbes is greatly influenced by her Maine surroundings. She enjoys capturing the light and colors of different times and moods of the day in her paintings of landscapes, seascapes and harbor activities.

Forbes taught in Rhode Island for nearly 40 years before retiring to Maine in 2012. She teaches plein air watercolor classes during the summer. Her work has been hung in numerous juried shows in Rhode Island as well as in shows all over Mount Desert Island. She has received awards in pen and ink, sculpture, photography and watercolor.

An opening reception will be held at the library in Bernard on Thursday, May 4, from 5-7 p.m., featuring guitarist Andrew Trepanier. Light refreshments will be served.
