Lawrence wins Acadia Night Sky Festival contest

BAR HARBOR — Vincent Lawrence’s photograph “Footbridge under a Starry Sky” has been chosen as the winning image for the 10th annual Acadia Night Sky Festival poster contest.

The winning image is of the footbridge at Jordan Pond, which is on the Jordan Pond Path on Mount Desert Island, encompassing the full arch of the Milky Way as visible from the north end of the pond at midnight. More than 70 photographers and artists from across the nation, a record number, submitted their original work capturing the night skies over Acadia and Downeast Maine.

Lawrence was born and raised on MDI, where he enjoyed the outdoors in the national park and surrounding communities. He combined his love and knowledge of the area with his passion for photography to form Acadia Images Workshops. Now, Lawrence meets visitors from all over the world and shows them some of the best that Acadia has to offer, including the dark, star-filled skies.

Cape Air, sponsor of the Acadia Night Sky Festival for several years running, will present Lawrence with two round-trip airfare vouchers between Bar Harbor and Boston.

The Acadia Night Sky Festival is a community celebration to promote the protection and enjoyment of Downeast and Acadia’s stellar night sky as a valuable natural resource through education, science and the arts. Visit www.acadianightskyfestival.org.
