SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The Wendell Gilley Museum will host a Saturday morning workshop in March for young artists, ages 10 and above, to carve an Arctic tern silhouette.

“Come try your hand at different stages of the art of bird carving, from initial carving and supervised wood burning to painting,” organizers said. “All levels are welcome, no previous experience necessary.”

Completed carvings can be entered in the Youth Division of the annual Ward World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition, held at the Ward Museum on Maryland’s eastern shore.

The Gilley will offer four Saturday sessions, March 2 – March 30, from 10-11:30 a.m. There’s no class on March 23. The museum recommends signing up for at least two or three classes to finish the project, although there’s no need to attend all four. There is a $5 materials fee.

Contact the museum at 244-7555.
