BAR HARBOR — Naturalist, educator, arborist and park ranger David Donovan will speak about local invasive species at the Jesup Memorial Library on Friday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m.

His talk, “Invasive Pests among Us,” will discuss some of the nonnative flora and fauna that have come to make their homes on Mount Desert Island and neighboring islands. These include purple loosestrife, Japanese knotweed, the American beech nectria fungus and others. Live specimens of some of the plants and preserved invasive insects will be on display for inspection.

The program will include a review of the work accomplished in the 1880s by the Champlain Society.

This talk is part of the Cadillac Mountain Sports Speaker Series. The talk is free and open to the public. Seating is first-come, first-served.
