BAR HARBOR — Ross Dinyari will make a slideshow presentation about his visits to China and how the area has changed over the years when he visits the Jesup Memorial Library on Friday, June 22, at 7 p.m.
Dinyari first visited Hong Kong in the 1970s and China in the 1980s. Over the past 30 years, he has continued to visit the area, and he most recently traveled there a few months ago.
“The first time I visited China, bicycles ruled the roads and building were being built using bamboo scaffolding,” Dinyari said. “The best hotels rooms were drab-looking, furnished with primitive scant furniture with a single light bulb hanging from the ceiling. The China I visit now is a model of style and luxury, from the BMWs and Mercedes to luxury hotels and restaurants with food and service surpassing the West.”
Dinyari will highlight his time in Hong Kong, Macau and Shenzhen. He also will talk about China’s place in the world today and how it relates to the West.
