History to come alive at Sound Schoolhouse

MOUNT DESERT — “The Vintage Classroom: A Day in the Sound Schoolhouse, 1895” will be performed by the Mount Desert Island Historical Society and the Barn Arts Collective on Thursday, May 10, from 12:30-3 p.m.

This interactive event will introduce participants to the history of Mount Desert Island at the turn of the 20th century. Led by schoolteacher Mrs. Abbott (Maude March) and a host of dynamic characters from the village past, the audience will learn about classroom lessons, popular games, granite quarrying and fiber arts.

The performance is suitable for ages 8 and up. Admission is free, but space is limited. RSVP to 276-9323 or to [email protected].
