‘Hidden Figures’ to be shown, discussed

BAR HARBOR — “Hidden Figures” will be screened at the YWCA MDI by the YWCA and the Jesup Memorial Library on Saturday, April 28, at 5:30 p.m.

“Hidden Figures” tells the true story of Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae) — brilliant African-American women working at NASA who served as the brains behind the launch of astronaut John Glenn, an achievement that turned around the space race. The visionary trio crossed all gender and racial lines and inspired generations. The film is based on the New York Times bestselling book of the same name by Margot Lee Shetterly.

The screening is free and open to the public. A discussion of the movie will take place afterwards, led by students from the civil rights team at Conners Emerson School.

Contact the YWCA MDI at 288-5008.
