‘Garbage Barge’ coming to COA

BAR HARBOR — The Funky Trunk Puppeteers will present “Large Marge’s Garbage Barge,” a family-friendly show written and directed by Lelania Avila of Mount Desert Island, in College of the Atlantic’s Gates Auditorium on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 4 p.m.

The show is the fun, funny, educational tale of Michael, who becomes upset when he discovers that all the trash he and his family generate gets taken by barge out to the ocean and dumped. Michael starts having bad dreams, thinking his town could be attacked by a garbage monster, but then begins learning about recycling, reusing and reducing his family’s trash. He feels much better after working with his friends to bring “Zero Waste” into their lives.

All of the puppets and scenery were created by local children ages 8-14, who also serve as the puppeteers.

“Join us in imagining a world where community members work together to solve big issues affecting our planet,” Avila said.

People of all ages are encouraged to attend. A donation of $5 per person or $15 per family of three or more is suggested.
