BAR HARBOR — The Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers will perform “The Grinch” at The Criterion Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 4 p.m.
The story is a loose retelling of the classic holiday tale with a few twists added by the local puppet troupe.
“We had a lot of fun working on our puppet version of ‘The Grinch,’ said puppeteer Erik Torbeck. “We veered off on a few tangents, including a peek into the Grinch’s childhood to explore why he is the way he is and a little late night run-in with Santa.”
The set is the largest of any Frogtown show, even requiring a ladder to get up to the Grinch’s cave. Local artist Doug McDunnah helped paint the scenery, a collaboration that aided in bringing the holiday tale to life.
“Performing at Christmastime is a blast because the audience is always in such a festive mood,” added Torbeck.
Tickets for the show cost $5 and can be purchased at www.criteriontheatre.org or at the box office an hour before the performance.
For more holiday magic, The Criterion will host a one-night-only screening of “The Polar Express” at 7 p.m. following Frogtown’s performance.
