BAR HARBOR — Auditions for Acadia Community Theater’s spring musical, Freaky Friday, are set for Dec. 19 and 20 beginning at 6 p.m. at Mount Desert Island High School.
Those planning to audition should download audition materials at www.acadiacommunitytheater.net and be prepared to sing a song, read dialogue, and learn a dance from the show.
The story follows a mother and daughter as they magically switch bodies and try to navigate the pressures and excitement of each other’s lives. Since the musical takes place in a high school setting, roles are available for adults, teens and anyone who looks like a high school student.
Younger children, third grade and above, are welcome to audition but stage time will be extremely limited. They will appear in one or two ensemble scenes with the exception of the role of Fletcher, the younger brother.
The musical will be directed by Mark Puglisi and will be performed in late March and early April.
Acadia Community Theater seeks to enrich the lives of individuals, families, and the community by encouraging growth and expression in theater arts and by providing live performances on and around Mount Desert Island. Originally formed as the “After School Players” in 1994, the group was later renamed the Union 98 Teachers’ Theater and then became the IRS-recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization Acadia Community Theater in 2000. Each year, the organization stages a spring musical and a fall play, among other activities, providing opportunities for young people and their families to participate in and enjoy theater together.
