MOUNT DESERT — The Northeast Harbor Library will be showing the film “The Maine Frontier: Through the Lens of Isaac Simpson” on Wednesday, March 27, at 5 p.m.
The documentary explores life in Aroostook County in the late 19th and early 20th Century. Simpson was a jack-of-all-trades and an itinerant blacksmith. While he traveled for work with his wife and 13 children, he took along an early camera that used glass plate negatives.
A collection of 200 of his photographs were later located in an attic and form the basis for this film by Sumner McKane. This film is 55 minutes long. A discussion will follow the screening, which is free of charge.
