‘Equal Means Equal’ to be screened

BAR HARBOR — “Equal Means Equal,” an award-winning documentary by Kamala Lopez, will be shown for free at Reel Pizza, 33 Kennebec Place, on Sunday, April 29, at 2 p.m.

When Lopez, an actress, director, activist and Yale graduate, discovered that the women of her generation assumed they had equal rights under the law, “she set out to shed light on some hard truths,” said a press release. In the film, she makes the case for ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution, which reads: “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.”

The film runs 1 hour and 33 minutes. After the screening, a short question-and-answer session will be led by members of Equal Rights Maine, presenters of the film.
