BAR HARBOR — The Criterion Theatre will host a summer edition of Criterion Classics from July 17 through July 21 with all screenings at 7 p.m. Films were chosen from community suggestions and include “E.T.,” “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” (sing along version), “Dirty Dancing,” “Back to the Future” and “Jaws.”
“We have found through meeting and speaking with many people in the community that some of their earliest memories revolve around a movie that they saw here as a child,” said Steve Boucher, a Criterion board member. “I think ultimately we would like everyone to recapture that experience and be able to now share that moment with their children.”
Local businesses and organizations including Side Street Café, Morning Glory Bakery, Cool as a Moose and Cleary Law Offices have stepped up to sponsor these classics.
“We are so grateful to our local sponsors who make the Criterion Classics week a community event inside and outside the theater,” said Heather Martin, director of the Criterion. “Bringing these beloved films back to the big screen wouldn’t be possible without their support.”
Tickets for each film are available online at www.criteriontheatre.org or at the box office an hour before show time.
