Concert to benefit IPM

MOUNT DESERT —Peter, Jim and Brendan Mayer will give a benefit concert on the Asticou lawn in Northeast Harbor on Tuesday, Aug. 16, from 7-9 p.m. Peter Mayer is the lead guitarist and vocalist for Jimmy Buffett, and Jim Mayer plays bass for the Coral Reefers.

The concert is a benefit and celebration for IPM (International Partners in Mission) which has been working for more than 40 years creating partnerships that build justice, peace and hope for children, women and young people around the world. Peter and Jim are sons and Brendan is a grandson of IPM’s founders. For the past five years, IPM has had an office on MDI and is delighted to have this opportunity to share Caribbean delights and great music during a summer evening on the Asticou lawn.

The evening includes a preconcert Caribbean Party with Caribbean-themed food, drinks and music by the Phil Kell Trio and a raffle. Among a few fun and interesting items is a one-of-a-kind painted guitar. Weslea Sidon, writing teacher at the Summer Festival of the Arts, donated a guitar to IPM, which was then painted by SFOA intern Maddy Sargent. Fifteen-year-old Maddy is an artist and musician visiting with family friends in Southwest Harbor this summer, and her work adds to the spirit of the evening and IPM’s work.

Tickets for the concert and pre-concert Caribbean party are available from the IPM office in Northeast Harbor. Contact Rosalie Kell at 801-1062 or [email protected] Tickets also can be purchased at www.ipmconnectevents.org/.

IPM has facilitated nearly 350 initiatives with project partners worldwide, which today impact more than 60,000 lives annually, has led more than 1,800 individuals on immersion experiences around the globe and has inspired donors to help bring solar-powered lights to villages in Nepal after the catastrophic earthquakes in 2015.
