Comic Con is Saturday

BAR HARBOR — The Bar Harbor Comic Con will be held Saturday, May 4, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Atlantic Oceanside Hotel and Event Center. Artist and humorist Rick Parker, known for his work on MTV’s Beavis and Butthead Marvel Comics series, and Lisa Trusiani, a writer and storyboard artist for comic books and comic strips, will be among the featured guests.

Admission is $10, kids under the age of 12 are free with a paying adult. Parking is free. Artists, vendors and exhibitors will be set up on the upper floor of the event center. Gaming activities will be on the lower level, including table top games, video games, role playing games and more, organized by the Downeast Gamers Guild and Noreaster Gaming Expo.

Parker will speak on an artists’ panel at 11 a.m. with Paul Pelletier and Christopher Mills. Pelletier, from Lewiston, worked on Marvel Comics’ miniseries War of the Kings with the “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Fall of the Hulks.” Mills is a freelance writer, editor and graphic artist who has scripted independent comic books including “Leonard Nimoy’s Primortals” and “Gravedigger: The Scavengers.” He is currently working on a new line of all-ages adventure comics under his Atomic Pump imprint.

At 12 p.m., an authors’ panel will feature Trusiani and Mount Desert Island’s own Carrie Jones. Jones is the author of both fantasy and non-fantasy novels including the paranormal “Need” series.

Chuck Carter, founder of Eager Games, will give a demonstration and answer questions about virtual reality games at 1 p.m. Carter founded Eager Games in 2014 in Bangor, and has partnered with writers Joe Fielder and David Chen, and voice actor Steven Russell to bring together Eager Games’ first title, “ZED.”

At 2 p.m., Mark Pinksten will present a new magic and pop culture comedy show.

A kids’ costume and cosplay parade is planned for 3 p.m. Adult costume and cosplay competition will be at 4 p.m.

At 4:30 p.m. the Kennebec Boff Club will host a simulated battle with foam weapons.

The Western Maine Wookie and Bar Harbor Batman will also be among the vendors, exhibitors, artists and authors at the convention. A full list of guests can be found at
