‘Color Acadia’ seeks to inform, entertain

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Adults all over the world are unwinding and delighting in coloring inside the lines in coloring books created for them.

“Color Acadia: An Adult Coloring Book” by Mount Desert Island artists Katie Dube and Keri Kimura and collaborator Janet Strong is one such book. It provides the canvas and composition for visitors, locals and residents to chill out and lose themselves, bringing to life a wavy-haired swimmer, complete with bubbles and a fish, in Echo Lake; a campfire on a cobble beach under the night sky; the striking pine along Sargeant Drive in Northeast Harbor and other familiar places and scenes.

“Color Acadia” contains 18 plates or pages featuring a pen-and-ink drawing. Each piece is accompanied by a short intro providing some facts and details about the particular destination or setting in Acadia National Park.

“Schoodic Wildflowers,” for instance, identifies the blue flag iris, bluets, the ghostly Indian pipe and Jack-in-the-pulpit found growing in season in Acadia’s Schoodic district.

“Color Acadia” costs $20 per copy and is available at Sherman’s Books & Stationery and Spruce & Gussy in Bar Harbor, Lisa Hall Jewelry in Northeast Harbor and XYZ Restaurant and Under the Dogwood Tree in Southwest Harbor.
