Climate-change suit plaintiff to speak

BAR HARBOR — Kelsey Juliana, one of 21 youths suing the federal government for failure to act on climate change, will speak at College of the Atlantic’s Human Ecology Forum in McCormick Lecture Hall on Tuesday, June 5, at 4:10 p.m.

The suit, Juliana vs. United States, is currently in 9th Circuit Federal Court in Oregon.

Juliana, a lifelong environmental activist, joined Our Children’s Trust through suing the governor of Oregon when she was 15 years old. When she was 18, she walked across the country with the Great March for Climate Action, and she now works with Partners for Sustainable Schools to teach children about sustainability and the environment.

Our Children’s Trust elevates the voice of youth to secure the legal right to a stable climate and healthy atmosphere for the benefit of all present and future generations. Through its programs, youths participate in advocacy, public education and civic engagement to ensure the viability of all natural systems in accordance with science.
