Christmas festival offers fun for all

MOUNT DESERT — The day-long Northeast Harbor Christmas Festival on Saturday, Dec. 3, will include something to appeal to just about everyone.

It begins at 9 a.m. at Neighborhood House with registration for the fourth annual Kids Fun Run and Frosty 5K run and walk. The fun run starts at 9:30 a.m. and the 5K at 10 a.m.

The Northeast Harbor Library will host a holiday card-making workshop for children and adults from 10 a.m. to noon. The library will provide all materials, as well as hot cider and treats.

From 1-3 p.m., children can shop for gifts for family members and have the gifts wrapped at Santa’s Workshop at Neighborhood House.

Neighborhood House also will be the starting point for wagon rides around town from 3-4:30 p.m. And, weather permitting, Waikerie Farm will offer horse-drawn carriage rides from 3-6 p.m.

Starting at 3:45 p.m., there will be caroling at the Northeast Harbor Marina, where Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive aboard Sunbeam at 4 p.m.

After a short ride up the hill to Main Street, Santa will settle himself onto the front porch of Carter’s Real Estate to greet children and listen to their Christmas wishes until 5:30 p.m. Meanwhile, a bonfire in front of the Great Harbor Maritime Museum will light the night and take the chill off.

The Mount Desert Nursery School will welcome visitors to its Festival of Trees from 5:30-7 p.m.

Then, back at Neighborhood House, the Acadia Community Theater’s performance of “Nutcracker” will start at 7 p.m.
