Chamber music week for adults

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Arthur Russell Week is accepting applications for its inaugural summer chamber music program for adults. Sessions will occur July 8-11 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The program is sponsored by Ellsworth Community Music Institute.

Participants will be under the direction of Noreen Silver, a director and cellist who was born and grew up in Glasgow, Scotland. Her studies took her to London’s Royal College of Music and to Boston’s New England Conservatory as the recipient of a Rotary International Fellowship. She and pianist husband Phillip Silver form the internationally acclaimed Silver Duo, with two CD recordings on the Toccata Classics label. Her professional experience includes several years in Seattle’s Northwest Chamber Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Opera, Boston Opera, London’s BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Silver is principal cellist of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and has often appeared as soloist with the orchestra. Silver has been on the University of Maine faculty since 1999, where she directs the chamber music program and teaches cello performance.

Applications for the adult program are available online at ellsworthcommunitymusic.org. Applications are invited from students who are curious about broadening their musical knowledge through ensemble playing. Preformed groups as well as individuals are encouraged to apply.
